Found scattered or in groups under conifers.

Description

Cap: Dull ochre-orange, darker umbo; smooth, sticky surface covered with tufts of tiny gray/brown matters fibers when young; conic; margin even or containing a narrow band of tissue; flesh pale yellow which turns rosy-brown when cut, does not blue; pungent odor, less agreeable in age. Pores: Brown to dingy yellow; may stain brown. Stalk: Dull orange-brown densely covered with dark brown dots or smears; solid or stuffed; equal; often curved. Note: Handling the fruiting body stains fingers brown or yellow. KOH stains both cap and flesh purplish (J. Solem, pers. comm.).
