Status
This is a microscopic fungus. Observation without microscopic confirmation are speculative.
Description
Fruiting body: Black, irregular/circular, slightly raised spots with wrinkles/ridges (J. Solem, pers. comm.). Observation of microscopic features is necessary to distinguish this species from other fungi causing tar spots (e.g., Rhytisma acerinum).
Where To Find
Solitary or groups of raised black spots on decaying maple leaves (J. Solem, pers. comm.).
