Status
Fimbristylis is collectively widespread in Maryland but several species are infrequent and considered threatened or endangered in the state.
Description
Identification of Fimbristylis generally requires careful observation. It can be helpful to determine if the plants are producing stolons (which may require some digging). The overall shape and size of the inflorescence is important. Observation of the microscopic features of the scales and achenes may also be necessary.
