BugGuide notes the following: "the taxonomic situation is this... the holotype of Anelaphus parallelus is a specimen of A. villosus, making the new synonymy valid. However, the form previously called parallelus may prove to be a distinct species that is either undescribed or was described as one of the many synonyms of parallelus or villosus that should be elevated in the future. But until someone digs deeper into these forms, and decides whether to elevate parallelus back to species status, it will remain in synonymy with villosus. --Robert A. Anelaphus villosus, the twig pruner, is a species in the longhorn beetle family Cerambycidae. It is found in the eastern half of the United States and southeastern Canada.

The species Anelaphus parallelus has been determined to be a taxonomic synonym of Anelaphus villosus. They are now treated as the same species under the name Anelaphus villosus.[1][2][3]
