Description

Nusuttodinium aeruginosum is easily recognized by the blue-green color of the plastids. It is athecate (lacking the cellulose plates found in other dinoflagellates like Peridinium and Ceratium). It is ovoid to nearly round in dorsal view; somewhat compressed in lateral view. The cingulum is only slightly off-set at the sulcus.

Where To Find

Nusuttodinium aeruginosum is a microscopic freshwater alga. It can be found in freshwater ponds, lakes and wetlands throughout the year. It seems to be more abundant in the cooler months and may be found throughout the winter in Maryland.
