Details

Status

Laura's Clubtail (Stylurus laurae) is a denizen of forested creeks or rivers with riffles, clear water, and a sand or mud substrate. They are particularly fond of perching on overhanging vegetation at the breeding habitat (Paulson, 2011). In Maryland, Laura's Clubtail ranges widely through much of the coastal plain and portions of the piedmont, where is is considered uncommmon. It is also recorded from a single county on the eastern shore, where it is rare (Richard Orr's The Dragonflies and Damselflies of Maryland and the District of Columbia). This species is ranked as S2 (state rare)-S3 (watch list).
