On ground/moss scattered or in groups under hardwoods or white pines.

Description

Deep blood red or orange-red cap covered with silky fibrils, convex becoming flattened with prominent umbo in age; flesh rosy-pink. Gill color like cap or darker; stalk color may be lighter (J. Solem, pers. comm.).
