Found scattered on ground in deciduous or mixed forests.

Description

Cap: Pale to dark yellow; waxy; viscid when wet; lumpy; convex to depressed in age; fleshwhite to pale yellow. Gills: White becoming yellow in age; waxy; widely spaced; bruise pale reddish-brown. Stalk: White or pale yellow; dry; surface roughened; equal or expanded at apex. Does not look (or feel)like a typical Russula (J. Solem, pers. comm.).
