Status

Adults infrequently reported in Maryland but can be found in a variety of habitats. Flight time is apparently early May to October (Skevington, 2019).

Description

The only member of its genus in North America, but variable and may constitute a complex of two or three undescribed species (Skevington, 2019).

Relationships

Larvae feed on a variety of aphids.

Epistrophella emarginata is a common North American species of hoverfly.^[1] Larvae are aphid predators ^[2] When laying eggs, the female oviposits on the petioles of a leaf.^[3]
