Status

Coccocarpia palmicola is an uncommon foliose lichen found in the Eastern US. It grows on shaded trees and mossy stones. Coccocarpia erythroxyli has also been reported from Maryland.

Description

The upper surface of Salted Shell Lichen is dark blue-gray with rounded lobes. The surface typically has many (sometimes few) cylindrical or globose isidia. The lower surface is covered in a thick tomentum.
