A deformed female Obscure Bird Grasshopper in Queen Anne's Co., Maryland (9/21/2014). Collected at Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center on August 11 and raised to adulthood in captivity. The deformities are from a mismolt in which the insect failed to properly inflate its wings.

Schistocerca obscura, the obscure bird grasshopper, is a species of grasshopper in the family Acrididae. The species occurs in the United States, from Maryland south to Florida and west to Arizona.^[2]
